Alaska Geographic Alliance





The Alaska Geographic Alliance (AGA), in collaboration with the National Geographic Society, provides teacher professional development and supports initiatives to increase the geo-literacy of all Alaskans.



GRADE LEVELS: K-12



DEADLINES/NOTABLE EVENTS:
•    AGA, in conjunction with the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (EED) is conducting a GIS Camp for high school teacher/student teams in Seward, AK on August 6-10.  Applications can be found at gis.asof.org and are due by Monday, April 2, 2012.
•    AGA supports the Alaska State Geographic Bee each year.  Detailed information found at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee.
•    AGA also promotes Geography Awareness Week statewide with community events, school visits, and more.  The next Geography Awareness Week will be November 11-17, 2012.
•    AGA disseminates news about professional development opportunities and deadlines on its website, alaskageo.ning.com.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
AGA helps coordinate Alaska’s statewide GIS license. To request software, go to
http://www.aklearn.net/resources/.  AGA provides teacher professional development courses and in-services throughout the year.  Contact Katie Kennedy to coordinate a professional development opportunity in your school or district.
